NO ESTAMOS TODAS (We are not all here) / FEMICIDE
by Machteld Aardse & Jeroen Kriek / MAPA Moving Academy for Performing Arts / 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026
Director Jeroen Kriek and artist Machteld Aardse, both connected to the Moving Academy for Performing Arts (MAPA) work together in analogue light projections based on a social commitment; highlighting black holes in our society in an attempt to make the invisible visible again.
"Through analogue light projections and based on interviews with family members, mothers, sisters and survivors of femicide attacks we attempt to make the invisible visible again and wish to bring a little light in the souls of people who are left behind. The iconographical work is about the quest of women and family members on their missing daughters and sisters, and their power for the everyday fight against femicide in Mexico and the Netherlands.”
Invited by Casa Snowapple MX in 2023 they started the project on femicide 'No Estamos Todas' (We are not all here) and it is growing since, also in the Netherlands, with a light installation during Xantolo El Día de Muertos (2024) at Ruigoord Amsterdam (2025) and in 2026 they wish to bring the light installation in the public space of Mexico City.

Shining Light on the Shadows: Ending Femicide Together
Femicide is not just a problem; it is a profound wound in our society, a global tragedy that surrounds us. Tomorrow it could be your sister, your mother, your neighbor, or your friend. It is closer than we dare to admit—wherever you go, it lingers nearby.
Our eyes tell stories—of love, hope, and resilience. But what happens when the light has faded? Every life lost to femicide is a spark extinguished, a light that was never meant to go out.
Projecting light is more than a symbolic act; it is a promise. A promise that we will keep our eyes open, that we will see, acknowledge, and fight. We will not let the eyes of the victims be forgotten. We will carry the light they once held forward, using it to fuel our fight for justice.
Together, let us create a world where eyes are no longer filled with fear but with hope. Let us ensure that the light in every woman’s eyes continues to shine—for those we have lost and those still with us.
Do not let the light fade, let it shine through us...
