R O O T E D / democracy of the trees
In the Vonderkwartier in Eindhoven stands a majestic tree. Centrally located in the street, it extends its branches, and its roots grow beneath the houses. This tree is a habitat of its own, housing all kinds of life, just as a neighborhood does. Artists Femke Kempkes and Machteld Aardse take the tree as a source of inspiration and, together with residents and the city forester of Eindhoven, go in search of personal stories from the neighbourhood.
What lives here, and how life relates to one another and to humans and animals? They literally bring hidden stories and life into the light, making the ecology of the neighbourhood visible.
‘Rooted’ opens with a performance by the Vonder Choir and a performance at the park Frederica van Pruisenweg, Eindhoven
on November 7 at 18:30h.

INFO
The tree is the place where everything comes together; the people, the animals, the stories; it is a total ecosystem. The light artwork is being built based on input from the residents, with the enormous tree as the starting point. It is a site-specific project resulting in an installation with 14 analogue overhead projectors on moving heads. Within the installation the projectors are bodies them selves, turning like animals and spreading light.
