Machteld Aardse is an independent artist based in Amsterdam. She uses many different media, including drawing, video and performance. She goes out looking for the confrontation with her subject. In her case, the artist is never merely a spectator, but always a participant in what is going on in a place. She is intrigued by the different views on the world with their specific connections and short-circuits.
After getting a Masters Degree in Art History at the University of Amsterdam, she completed a BFA in Fine Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Aacdemie in Amsterdam and an MFA in Public Art at the Dutch Art Institute in Enschede. Her work is mostly executed in the publica area and has been exhibited such as at De Nederlandsche Bank, The New York Island Festival, Museum Scheltema in Leiden, the Stedelijk/W139 basement in Amsterdam and the Women's Art Festival in Aleppo Syria.
